The Volkswagen Touareg will come to India as a completely built unit (CBU) just like the Porsche Cayenne SUV and the Audi Q7 with which it shares a platform.  According to some reports, it will be priced between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 45 lakh on Indian roads.  We know that figure is hardly accurate, we are just reporting what we have heard.  We have heard crazier figures, so the only thing we can be sure about at this point is that the Volkswagen Touareg will be priced below the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7.

As far as performance goes, the Volkswagen Touraeg does a 0 to 60 mph (96 kmph) run in 8.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 209 kmph (in the US version).  We do not know whether they would be an electronically limited to speak for the Indian version of the Touareg 3.0 TDI. Permanent AWD would be available too.

In pure technological sophistication, the Volkswagen Touareg will be extremely close to the Porsche Cayenne (Don’t forgive that it is a petrol SUV). The 3000cc Touareg is reasonably fuel efficient, very torquey, quiet inside, luxurious and extremely safe – it earned five stars in every NHTSA safety test except for a 4-star rating in the rollover test.

The 2010 Toyota Corolla is a car with two different personalities: There's the base model for budget-conscious buyers and the sporty Corolla XRS for those after a little flair. Comparing both models with their prime rival. 

The base Corolla falls a little short in the performance and styling departments. The XRS does a better job, especially when it comes to power and handling, but loses out to the competition on price.

While the current Corolla is much more attractive than previous generations, one of the car's biggest drawbacks remains its inability to excite the visual senses. The Corolla lacks the sporty and modern panache of many of its rivals, but this may be ideal for those who don't want to stand out from the crowd.

Inside, base Corollas can feel a little cheap, but moving up to the LE adds features such as power windows, while the XLE gets wood grain trim. The XRS range-topper adds some leather trim and comfy sports bucket seats.


BOTTOM LINE
 Upgrade to the premium XRS model and you get a 2.4-liter four-banger with 158 horsepower on tap. This engine is happy to rev, and a sweet shifting six-speed automatic is available as an option. When matched with the standard five-speed manual, the Corolla XRS will sprint from 0-60 mph in around eight seconds—not exactly scintillating performance but enough to raise the heart rate. Fuel economy is hardly impressive, at 22/30 mpg.

The 2010 Toyota Corolla has two different personalities: a bare-basic entry-level model and the sporty—but pricey—Corolla XRS.

The Standard, LE and XLE models will be equipped with an all-new 1.8-liter engine. The 16-valve, DOHC four-cylinder engine with Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence), produces 132 hp at 6,000 rpm and 128 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. Corolla models equipped with the 1.8-liter engine will achieve preliminary EPA city/highway fuel economy ratings of 27/35 mpg.

A five-speed manual transmission is standard with the 1.8-liter engine, and a four-speed automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT) will also be available. For those who crave just a bit more horsepower and torque, there is the 2.4-liter engine. This engine is completely redesigned for use in the new Corolla XRS grade. The 16-valve DOHC engine with VVT-i produces 158 hp at 6,000 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Preliminary EPA city/highway fuel economy for the 2.4-liter engine is 22/30 mpg. The 2.4-liter engine will be paired with standard five-speed manual and optional five-speed automatic transmissions.

We’d love to have the opportunity to purchase a supercar out of what seems to be sheer boredom and then let it sit in our garage because we are too busy driving around in all of our other fantastic cars. The car is based on the first U.S. spec CCX imported into the US and is largely constructed of carbon fiber weighing in at just 2,600lbs. The SSC Ultimate Aero is an American-built mid-engine supercar by Shelby SuperCars. 

The higher-performance limited production version, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT produces more emissions-legal horsepower than any other production automobile in the world and previously held the Guinness Book of World Records record for being the fastest production car in the world (succeeded by the 2010 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with a recorded speed.

This speed was achieved during tests on September 13, 2007 West Richland, Washington, United States and verified by Guinness World Records on October 9, 2007

  Wheels on the base model are sized 460-millimetre (18 in) at the front and 480-millimetre (19 in) at the rear, while the Ultimate Aero TT has wheels an inch larger at each end.

According to Volkswagen Group and certified by TÜV Süddeutschland, the final production Veyron engine produces 1,001 metric horsepower of motive power, and generates 1,250 newton metres (922 ft·lbf) of torque.

The nominal figure has been stated by Bugatti officials to be conservative, with the real total being 1,020 metric horsepower .

The instrument panel in the Reventón comprises three TFT liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with two different display modes. The instruments are housed in a structure milled from a solid aluminium block, protected by a carbon fiber casing. If you are in India and have not been to the Auto Expo in New Delhi in early January, you would be quite confused. After all, you keep hearing about it but there is not a single photo of the car anywhere. Here, we hope to provide you with some answers about the Hyundai Verna.

The difference is pretty much the same difference as there is between the Skoda Octavia and the Skoda Laura. The Laura is the next version of the Octavia, and is priced much higher and is a newer, more sophisticated car. Same here. The Hyundai Verna is the next version of the Accent. But the Accent in all its different versions is selling reasonably well, and why would any company want to kill it off? (Don't pose that question to Toyota Kirloskar, though - they think different.)





And there you have the Hyundai Verna, which will sell alongside the current Hyundai Accent. The Accent will do battle against the likes of the Ford Ikon and Tata Indigo, Fiat Petra et al, the Verna will be positioned against the new Honda City ZX and the the rest, as well as against the Ford Fiesta petrol and diesels.

How would it be priced? The price of the Hyundai Verna would be right between the Elantra and the current Accent. Hyundai's president BVR Subbu told Business Standard that the Verna would not just be an aspirational model and that the company would be guning for big volumes.

When will the Hyundai Verna be launched? So far, the news is that the Verna's launch will be in the third quarter of 2006. Do not be surprised if it gets delayed by another 3 -6 months, such things happen all the time.



We also hear that there will be a coupe version of the Hyundai Verna. If this is true, that will be a courageous decision indeed by Hyundai India. However, we are not sure is the Verna - pretty much a normal, everyday car - is exactly what can pull off a coupe success story in India. Who knows? We will keep you posted with more photos and news as they become available.

ABS/Seatbags - Verna has its brakes supplied by Mando Brakes and Cityby Brakes India and the former has a slight edge over the latter - especiallythe ones with the ABS ( BTW I didnt have the time to wait for the ABS whichdoesnt roll out till next month).

Both cars have good space (incidentally the Verna is about a few centimeters larger than the City -both in the front and the back - width and depth - and YES I had them measured ;-) )

The City is larger at 500 compared to the Verna at 400 but the Verna has a 60/40 Split back seat in case I need to load something long - I really considered this a wash because sometimes you need to have big things stored and have folks in the car and sometimes you might like the fact that you can choose to bring home the long items in the trunk.

5. Performance - Verna
I test drove both cars and I had expected the Verna to underperform the City in the 20-60 range (based on some reviews on the web) and I was surprised that it was not at all the case and the City was nowhere close to the Verna both in the City and Highway




6. Mileage (Fuel efficiency)- City
The City can go 12-13kpl and the Verna around 10kpl and so the City has atleast a 2.5-3kpl lead

7. Looks/Design (/Envy factor ;-) ) - City slight Edge
My only consideration was that the car shouldnt be butt-ugly like the Nissan Morano or the Maruti Swift - as thought half the engineering design paper was torn off. The Honda is a familiar sight in the city and the straight H symbol as well. The Hyundai looks very different and pretty good in the Real Earth(the color I decided on finally) - My wife felt that it was a wash and if at all the Verna was better. I dont care if the design was bootlegged out of Munich or Tokyo - you can enjoy it all the same.

P.S. I hate the faux wood in the interiors of all the C-segment cars. It reminds me of the American cars in the 80s. Unfortunately I have to live with it because apparently it is a desired factor.




Sundaram Honda is the only dealer in the city and I have heard about some problems with them in some other reviews online and offline. I spoke to the manager about this and he was very frank about this and said that they have accepted, identified and worked to rectify the issues - I was very impressed with this. The Honda Civic is a line of subcompact and subsequently compact cars made and manufactured by Honda. In North America, the Civic is the second-longest continuously-running nameplate from a Japanese manufacturer; only the Toyota Corolla, introduced in 1968, has been in production longer.



The Civic, along with the Accord and Prelude, comprised Honda's vehicles sold in North America until the 1990s, when the model lineup was expanded. Having gone through several generational changes, the Civic has become larger and more upmarket, and it currently slots between the Fit and Accord.



GENERATION OF CIVIC


The first generation Honda Civic was introduced in 1972, but sold as a 1973 model. Equipped with a 1,169 cc (71.3 cu in) four-cylinder engine, the first generation Civic was designed to compete with American compact vehicles and offered features such as front power disc brakes and reclining vinyl bucket seats and AM radio.



The first generation Honda Civics were notorious for rusting in less than three years from purchase where salt was used in the winter.
