SSC Ultimate Aero

SSC Ultimate Aero

The SSC Ultimate Aero is an American-built mid-engine supercar by Shelby SuperCars.

The higher-performance limited production version, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT produces more emissions-legal horsepower than any other production automobile in the world and previously held the Guinness Book of World Records record for being the fastest production car in the world (succeeded by the 2010 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with a recorded speed.

This speed was achieved during tests on September 13, 2007 West Richland, Washington, United States and verified by Guinness World Records on October 9, 2007

INTERIOR

After holding the 'World's Fastest Production Car' for the past year, the Shelby SuperCars' Últimate Aero is receiving several refinements for the 2009 model year. The SSC engineering team equipped the 2009 Últimate Aero with a 15-percent increase in horsepower, a revamped front fascia design, and an array of important interior upgrades. A milestone for the limited-production automobile manufacturer, the new block improves structural integrity and oiling capabilities allowing SSC to boost the power output to 1287 horsepower while improving durability

 SSC Ultimate Aero Engine

The SSC Ultimate Aero achieves these kinds of speeds -- on a closed and newly repaved Washington highway, mind you -- with a 1183-hp V8 that delivers a frightening 1094 lb-ft of torque in a car that weighs only 2750 pounds. The track-worthy suspension system comes courtesy of Penske, with 6- and 8-piston brakes at the wheels.

For the 2009 model year, the SSC Ultimate Aero got a 15 percent increase in horsepower, for a total of 1287 hp, and a likely top speed over 270 mph. The nose was redesigned to accomodate the onrushing air at higher speeds, and new louvers bring in more air to the engine. The redesigned Aero also got brake-deployed rear spoilers for more stopping power.
